Arabic Federation for Democracy AFD Title Title

The Need for the Federation:

The idea of the federation in itself represents an ambitious idea not only for raising awareness regarding the issues of democracy, but also for future quest and it is a need as well as a priority as a natural response for “Arab Spring” especially after the failure to achieve the democratic transformation in many Arabic countries and what accompanied that in terms of discussions, demonstrations and protests characterized as being violent and bloody.

The prevalence of the internal economic, social and political crises, the weakness of undemocratic system to face it efficiently, the need to promote and strengthen the civil society and the efficiency of the society’s powers and organizations in putting pressure to promote the democratic development form additional purposes for establishing the federation.

As well, the idea of the federation stems from the need to provide experiences in the field of democratic transformations and observing the hard shortage of human and institutional capacities which could accompany difficult transitional stages.

The federation works to unify the efforts of a set of Arabic organizations working to disseminate and promote the principle of equality and participation in the process of decision-making and strengthen the bases of democracy in order to conquer all forms of discrimination. It also works to create an Arabic community believes in democracy, reform, rule of law, social justice, pluralism, peaceful deliberation of authority, separation of powers, judiciary independence and respecting human rights as well as freedom of opinion, expression and media in addition to work to deepen the regulations of democratic control over the Arabic security institution.
